[edit]Invitation to Participate – Indic Writing Systems Campaign 2025
[edit]Dear Wikimedian,
I hope you’re doing well.
I am reaching out regarding the Indic writing systems campaign 2025 (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_Writing_Systems/Indic_writing_systems_campaign_2025), which may interest you. I came across your name in the participants list of the English wikipedia writing systems page(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Writing_systems) and thought you might be interested in contributing to this initiative.
This campaign focuses on the preservation and documentation of South Asian writing systems, many of which are underrepresented or endangered. Supported by the Endangered alphabets initiative, Script Encoding Initiative at University of California, Berkeley, and the campaign includes two key activities:
- Wikidata Labelathon – Enhancing wikidata entries for south ssian scripts - Wikipedia Translatathon – Improving and expanding wikipedia content on these scripts
These efforts aim to increase the visibility and accessibility of south asian scripts for future generations.
You can find more details about the campaign here: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_Writing_Systems/Indic_writing_systems_campaign_2025
As part of this initiative, we have compiled lists of scripts that currently lack articles in various south asian wikipedias. There are also several scripts without articles on english wikipedia, which need to be created. You can find these lists here:
- Scripts missing on english Wikipedia: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_Writing_Systems/Indic_writing_systems_campaign_2025/Lists#Articles_missing_on_English_Wikipedia
- Scripts missing on other south asian wikipedias: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_Writing_Systems/Indic_writing_systems_campaign_2025/Lists#List_of_articles_per_wikipedia
We encourage you to explore these lists and contribute in any of the languages you are proficient in, including English.
Your contributions would be valuable in expanding wikidata’s coverage of Indic scripts. Please feel free to participate in any way that interests you. Let me know if you have any questions.
