How should I approach editing more controversial pages? --Reupark (talk) 21:06, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Reupark: Best is to raise issues on the article's talk page and build consensus. - UtherSRG (talk) 21:08, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
- Would you approach something that is politically controversial differently from something that is scientifically controversial? Reupark (talk) 22:10, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
- Given how broadly general my advise was, no. - UtherSRG (talk) 00:48, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from Nigam Pranjal on User:Nigam Pranjal/sandbox (11:06, 15 April 2025)
[edit]Hello there, i created a draft of one of the articles which i am thinking of uploading on Wikipedia article was created on 12th April and my account was created on 11 April but i am not getting any options to publish or submit draft for review --Nigam Pranjal (talk) 11:06, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Nigam Pranjal: Copy this exactly as you see it here and place it at the top of your draft:
{{subst:submit}}
- UtherSRG (talk) 11:09, 15 April 2025 (UTC)- Thank You so much for your help,my draft is now under review and it will take more than 3 months (it was mentioned) should i start to put all my drafts for review or 1 at a time Nigam Pranjal (talk) 16:35, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
- When you think they are ready for review is fine, though as you are new here, you are likely the learn things from your review of this draft that you can apply to your other drafts. - UtherSRG (talk) 16:42, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
- So i need to wait for 3 months right? Nigam Pranjal (talk) 16:43, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
- Yes. I've made some edits to clean up the draft. Please not what I've done and apply to your further work. I'll see what other notes I can make. - UtherSRG (talk) 16:46, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
- dear sir thank you for your immense support i have made the suggested changes i wanted to ask you that what are your reviews will my article be considered for publication ? Nigam Pranjal (talk) 17:35, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
- I tend to not do reviews. Instead, I provide the more technical support to clean up drafts so that they are easier for reviewers to read and so that they are in alignment with the other encyclopedia articles. You will have to sit tight and wait for a formal review. - UtherSRG (talk) 18:40, 15 April 2025 (UTC)

10 years of my group's research at Sun Microsystems were erased by an editor
[edit]My group at Sun Microsystems, Inc. created a new programming language, Distributed Application Specification Language, or DASL. Circa 2008, I added an article to Wikipedia describing our work and our language. Sun Microsystems Labs published a technical report I authored on DASL in 2005, which was an update of a previously published report from circa 2000. The 2005 report is part of the ACM (Association for Computing) online digital library.
Earlier in 2025, an editor decided, without consulting me, that our work at Sun Labs was not "noteworthy" because she could not find references to it. The links in the article probably became broken because Sun was acquired by Oracle, and the links to the US Patent Office broke because the patent office changed its linking mechanism. We have about 15 US patents on our work on DASL.
Editing in Wikipedia has become very complex, and I don't know how to restore the deleted page. If you can restore it, I can update the links. Or if you can tell me how to do it, I will. I can be reached via my LinkedIn profile below.
In case there is any doubt that our work is noteworthy and published, please see https://dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.5555/1698172 for one example of our published work. There are other descriptions of DASL on the web, such as https://seattlewebsitedevelopers.medium.com/what-is-dasl-84b12fe4eb15
My own background can be seen at https://www.linkedin.com/in/drbobgoldberg/
Thank you. Nissenbenyitskhak (talk) 00:38, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- Your credentials mean very little - in fact, they mean you have a conflict of interest on the subject. You have a draft article to work on. Please continue to work on it. - UtherSRG (talk) 00:42, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- Where is the original article that got deleted? What I'd like to do is obtain the article that was deleted recently, and fix up the links in it that are broken. The article was, as far as I know, fine. I don't want to have to rewrite it from scratch. How can I obtain the deleted article so I can fix the links?
- As far as "conflict of interest", in science, the people who innovate are generally the best ones to describe their work. Nissenbenyitskhak (talk) 23:03, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- The link is on your user talk page. For encyclopedias, the people who innovate should NOT be the ones to describe their work. Please read and understand WP:COI. - UtherSRG (talk) 23:53, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
Hello,
I want to replace the broken link on this page: https://bafybeiemxf5abjwjbikoz4mc3a3dla6ual3jsgpdr4cjr3oz3evfyavhwq.ipfs.dweb.link/wiki/Accrued_interest.html
with an article on this page: https://www.crispcap.co.uk/our-blog/understanding-quick-business-loans/.
It provides a clear definition of accrued interest.
When I make the edit it says it is disallowed, why is this? --Crispcap (talk) 10:14, 17 April 2025 (UTC)

Article ready for main space?
[edit]I believe the article is ready for the main space now. I have added many new sources, new content and other details. I'd like next add a non-free image for the infobox, but I cannot do that by rule until the article is in the main space. I believe normally I would just push an article to the main space if I felt it was ready, but in this case since it was in draft and was previously deleted, I wanted to check first before I accidentally do something that annoys somebody by inadvertently violating some policy or guideline. Iljhgtn (talk) 20:59, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Iljhgtn: Best move would be to submit it for review. - UtherSRG (talk) 21:16, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, I don't think I have ever done that, or if so, it has been a very long time... Normally I just ensure that the articles I write (for the most part) are sufficiently sourced and notable and push them to the main space myself. Let me go look for the link now on how to submit a draft for review.. Iljhgtn (talk) 21:19, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. I was just about to submit the tag at the top of the article when I noticed you did so for me, so then all I needed to do was hit submit. Your help is appreciated. Iljhgtn (talk) 21:22, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- Now I remember why I normally just go directly to the main space (as long as the article is very well sourced, the backlog seems to only be growing there)... "This may take 3 months or more, since drafts are reviewed in no specific order." Interesting that, "...drafts are reviewed in no specific order..." I would have though that they would have been reviewed in the order they were submitted. I wonder why that is not the case? Iljhgtn (talk) 21:24, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- I meant to put it there when I restored it as a draft. Anything that's been restored from a "hard delete" at AFD must go through review before going back into article space. Restored "soft deletes" and PRODs should as well, but it isn't a must. - UtherSRG (talk) 21:26, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- That makes sense. Iljhgtn (talk) 21:28, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- By the way, I was also interested in Where's George dollar tracking back in the very early 2000s. I don't think I've seen one in quite some time now though. Years even.. Iljhgtn (talk) 21:30, 19 April 2025 (UTC)

revdel request
[edit]Editors keep adding a name for the perpetrator to Barcelona school killing without a source. I have also looked for sources on my own and the name was left unreported because of their age. Its my understanding that attributing a name to the killer without a source is a revdel (RD2?) worthy blp violation.
- first added 14:01, 4 June 2018, last mention removed 18:40, 13 August 2024
- readded 02:11, 21 February 2025, last mention removed 16:09, 28 February 2025
- readded 10:47, 21 April 2025, reverted immediately after 11:55, 21 April 2025
By my count 6 different editors have added the name to the page, semi-protection would probably help alleviate future issues, but I can take that up with rfpp if you'd rather.
This is my first time requesting revdel outside of the copyvio space; so if there's other information you need from me, I've misunderstood policy, or if there's something I can do better for the future please let me know, thank you! fifteen thousand two hundred twenty four (talk) 12:51, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from JaipurEditorR (09:36, 22 April 2025)
[edit]Hello Ixtal,
I am JaipurEditorR, a new editor on Wikipedia. I’m excited to start contributing and learning how to edit articles effectively.
As you have been assigned as my mentor, I wanted to introduce myself. I'm currently interested in learning how to add references, make small edits, and gradually take on more advanced editing tasks.
If you have any tips for beginners or if there are specific areas where I can start practicing, I would really appreciate your guidance.
Thank you for supporting new editors like me! 🙏
Looking forward to learning with your help.
