Koptsev

[edit]

@Doug Weller: Koptsev is mentioned multiple times in connection to the Diaries:

Via google translate:

"When the cameramen and photojournalists left the courtroom, prosecutor Kira Gudim spoke. She recalled that Aleksandr Koptsev was accused of attempted murder of eight people and "incitement of national hatred with the use of violence." The basis for this "hatred" was anti-Semitic materials that the defendant found on the Internet. In particular, the books "The Turner Diary" by Andrew MacDonald and "The Strike of the Russian Gods" by Vladimir Istarkhov." -

SOVA Center

During the court hearing, Koptsev did not plead guilty and testified to the court as follows, practically confirming the testimony he gave during the preliminary investigation, which can be summarized as follows: over the past two years, he has been interested in literature of anti-Semitic and religious content, read a number of publications, including "The Impact of the Russian Gods" by V. Istarkhov, "Turner's Diary" by E. MacDonald,

Additionally another Kommersant article refers to the Diaries as Koptsev's "favorite book".

With these sources in mind, discussing the book in connection to the attack, would you be persuaded to include mention of Koptsev if I include these sources in the article? Happy holidays. RKT7789 (talk) 09:17, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@PARAKANYAA: I felt the source was satisfactory but I added more just in case. Here is a small sample from Shnirelman's book (page 156):

An acquaintance with all this strange literature that has filled the bookstores of the main cities of Russia leaves the question of what its authors are trying to achieve and to what extent they are achieving their goals. This is indicated by the books found in the homes of radicals who are being brought to trial for racially motivated crimes and offenses. For example, in the apartment of Alexander Koptsev, who attacked parishioners of the Lubavitch synagogue on Bolshaya Bronnaya in Moscow with a knife on January 11, 2006, injuring nine people, the books "The Strike of Russian Gods" by V. Istarkhov and "The Turner Diaries" by E. MacDonald were found. Both are considered extremist literature (about MacDonald's book, see: Shnirelman 2005a: 293-306).

The text goes on to explain how he was motivated by his views to go and kill Jews, Koptsev's page explains this in more detail RKT7789 (talk) 09:52, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The penultimate sentence is of course fine. Note that given your calling him a terrorist, a BLP violation, I wasn't sure about your edits about the book. Doug Weller talk 10:35, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Doug Weller: I called him a terrorist? Diff please. RKT7789 (talk) 10:55, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, not you, struck my statement. Doug Weller talk 11:03, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
